2013 Comes To A Close

ImageThe Shēngxiào (literally “birth likeness”), also known in English as the Chinese zodiac (in Western Astrology meaning “circle of animals”), is a scheme and systematic plan of future action, that relates each year to an animal and its reputed attributes, according to a 12-year cycle. The zodiac traditionally begins with the sign of the Rat. The following are the twelve zodiac signs (each with its associated Earthly Branch) in order and their characteristics. In Chinese astrology the animal signs assigned by year represent what others perceive you as being or how you present yourself.

If you were born in the Year of the Snake 2013 was significant for you because 2013 was the Year of the Snake. But hold on, because on the 30th  the Snake is coming to an end and Year of the Horse will begin the Chinese New Year. From all of us at Bel Air we hope you had an amazing Snake year! Adorn yourself with something signifying the sleek ringlets of the beautiful snake before it slithers away with our Two Row Squared-shaped Emerald and Diamond Bracelet.

Pink Is The Color Of Love!

ImageA Sapphire is a gemstone variety of the mineral corundum, an aluminium oxide. Trace amounts of other elements such as iron, titanium, chromium, copper, or magnesium can give corundum blue, yellow, purple, orange, or a greenish color. Chromium impurities in corundum yield a pink or red tint, like the dazzling French Cut Pink Sapphire Diamond Earrings by Bel Air Jewelry.

Pink (first used as a color name in the late 17th century) is a pale red color, which takes its name from the flower of the same name. According to surveys in Europe and the United States, pink, especially when combined with white or pale blue, is the color most commonly associated with femininity, sensitivity, tenderness, childhood, and the romantic. However, when combined with violet or black, it is associated with eroticism and seduction. Let your inner magnet prowl and adorn yourself with anything pink this winter!

January Born

Image

Garnet, the birthstone for January,  signifies eternal friendship and trust.  Garnet, derived from the word granatum, meaning seed, and is called so because of the gemstone’s resemblance to a pomegranate seed.  References to the gemstone dates back to 3100 B.C., when the Egyptians used garnets as inlays in their most prominent jewelry settings.  When thinking of Garnets, most people think of a beautifully rich red color, however the mineral comes in a rainbow of hues, from the deepest of crimsons, to pyrope, and even vibrant green tsavorites. Don’t let this January pass without exploring a world of color with the famous January birthstone by Bel Air Jewelry.

Blue Is The Color Of Winter

Image

As Roman Payne states in his novel; “It is growing cold. Winter is putting footsteps in the meadow. What whiteness boasts that sun that comes into this wood! One would say milk-colored maidens are dancing on the petals of orchids. How coldly burns our sun! One would say its rays of light are shards of snow, one imagines the sun lives upon a snow crested peak on this day. One would say she is a woman who wears a gown of winter frost that blinds the eyes. Helplessness has weakened me. Wandering has wearied my legs.” This season let winter awaken your senses with Bel Air Jewelry’s Deep Blue Sapphire Sliced Necklace.

The Story With The Painting

Image

Girl With a Pearl Earring tells the story of Griet, a 16-year-old Dutch girl who becomes a maid in the house of the painter Johannes Vermeer. Her calm and perceptive manner not only helps her in her household duties, but also attracts the painter’s attention. Vermeer slowly draws her into the world of his paintings.

On the verge of womanhood, Griet also contends with the growing attentions both from a local butcher and from Vermeer’s patron, the wealthy van Ruijven. And she has to find her way through this new and strange life outside the loving Protestant family she grew up in, now fragmented by accident and death.

As Griet becomes part of her master’s work, their growing intimacy spreads disruption and jealousy within the ordered household and even – as the scandal seeps out – ripples in the world beyond.

Is your love forbidden? Do you dream of being taken into a world of mischief and secret romance? Wear pearl earrings this winter by Bel Air Jewelry, and let the inner beauty of the muse within you shine.

Girl with a Pearl Earring

The painting Girl with a Pearl Earring is one of Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer’s masterworks. It is now in the collection of the Mauritshuis gallery inThe Hague, but in 2013 has toured the United States with other works while the museum completes building work. After the most recent restoration of the painting in 1994, the subtle color scheme and the intimacy of the girl’s gaze toward the viewer have been greatly enhanced.

Tracy Chevalier wrote a historical novel, also entitled Girl with a Pearl Earring (1999), fictionalizing the circumstances of the painting’s creation. In the novel, Johannes Vermeer becomes close with a fictional servant named Griet, whom he hires as an assistant and has sit for him as a painting model while wearing his wife’s pearl earrings. The novel inspired the 2003 film that stars Scarlett Johansson (born November 22, 1984) as the girl with the pearl earring. Johansson was nominated for various awards including a Golden Globe Award and a BAFTA. Do you look at your lover with the same longing this starlet captured in the film? Or is your passion as classic and demure as the pairing itself? Display your elegant beauty with a pair of pearl earrings this winter by Bel Air Jewelry. Remember, beauty may fade like cracks in oil, but a moment in love can last a lifetime.
